A Portland winter (is one day long)

About 500 days into living in Portland and it finally, finally happened-

Kinda real winter-ish stuff!

It may not look like much if you're used to the real deal, but this city is still reeling from the mighty Snowpocalypse No-Show of 2014 (check it out). An actual snow day felt looooong overdue!

Hardly anyone drove that day- Portland's snowday game plan is best summed up as everybody-stay-home-and-freak-out-while-watching-the-news. The very first car I eventually saw on the road failed to make a sharp right turn and slid over the concrete median with a crunch. On the other hand, there were dogs in sweaters EVERYWHERE. Most of them were thrilled to be outside. A few were totally freaked out and kept snapping at the snowflakes like they were an attacking army.

Temperatures had risen by the late afternoon. The snow on the ground started to melt, then got shellacked by freezing rain.

Although nothing more happened, the leftover ice meant an entire Monday off work/school for a lot of people ;)

Now back to the regularly-scheduled programming:

How's your January going? Have you gotten a snow day yet? Or the dreaded it's-snowing-and-I-still-have-to-go-to-work day?

Next post: Ukrainian winter! :)
